Baldwin County officials confirmed today gas station owner Bobby Wilson died at a local hospital.
According to chief assistant District Attorney Hallie Dixon, the district attorney's office was notified around 5:30 a.m. today that Wilson had died in his sleep. Dixon said the investigation has now turned from a robbery and assault investigation into a murder and robbery investigation.
Dixon said the district attorney's office has requested an autopsy be performed on Wilson in order to determine the exact cause of death. When the results will become available is unsure, Dixon said.
"It’s an ongoing investigation with developments just like any ongoing investigation," Dixon said Friday afternoon. “The investigation is not complete — it is ongoing. We are continuing to work with law enforcement investigating the case.”
Wilson has been in a local hospital for the last four months. In August, a police officer visiting the gas station found Wilson severely beaten and unconscious. While no arrests have been made, authorities have named Eric Buzbee a "person of interest." Buzbee was was arrested Sept. 21 on unrelated charges for possession of a drug paraphernalia. On Nov. 20, his attorney, John Beck, filed a motion to suppress a search warrant for his client.
There is still a $32,000 reward offered from “Friends of Bobby Wilson,” for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) involved in the attack on Wilson. The anonymous tip line is 251-990-4673.
Funeral arrangements to follow.
