ORANGE BEACH, AL — The City of Orange Beach Wind and Water Learning Center will host the American Canoe Association Coastal Kayaking Level 1-3 Instructor Development Workshop Nov. 21-22.

Participants in the IDW will learn how to develop and manage kayaking instructional programs, discuss various teaching methodologies, barriers to learning and issues related to paddler safety and risk management.

ACA Open Water Instructor Trainer Ron Smith will teach instructor candidates providing verbal and video feedback on their kayaking strokes, rescues, teaching ability and general knowledge relevant to kayaking. Instruction will include both on the water and classroom IDW instruction.

Participants should have proper equipment and gear to be comfortable on and in the water. Pre-work for the workshop will be assigned and to ensure participants have sufficient time to complete the workshop pre-work, the deadline for enrolling is Nov. 5.

Candidates for this course should meet the basic prerequisites which include; proficiency in all the kayak strokes, rescues and subject matter relevant to kayaking at the level of certification they are seeking. The cost for participating in the IDW is $200.

An Instructor Certification Examination, where candidates will be assessed for certification, will be in 2015.
