DAPHNE, Ala. — W.J. Carroll Intermediate School teachers received $7,538.07 in SEEDS grants for the 2008-2009 school year.

From Promethean Boards to science kits to learning about the history of our own community, the teachers will bring a variety of enrichment opportunities to the students and the community.

The awards

<“Remember the Sound of Music” is a grant award given to Durand Curtis, the school’s counselor. As one of the faculty sponsors of the W.J. Carroll Intermediate Choir, he has seen growth and opportunities for the choir to sing within the community. With the grant, the choir will venture into a technological phase that will consist of studio recording at school.  This production format can teach and enhance musical dynamics prior to performances.  Also, integrating technology can assist in keeping students motivated and expose them to various careers.

SEEDS — Supporting Educational Enrichment in Daphne’s Schools — has distributed over $48,000 since 2005 to teachers in the five Daphne public schools and at Christ the King  Catholic School through their Classroom Enrichment Grant Program.

These annual awards are made on the basis of each proposal’s potential for creativity and impact, professional collaboration and community partnership.
