DAPHNE, Ala. — W.J. Carroll Intermediate School is a recipient of the Picturing America Grant, a comprehensive package of materials that includes 40 large, high-quality color reproductions of selected masterpieces.
According to the National Endowment for the Humanities Web site, Picturing America is an exciting new initiative that brings masterpieces of American art into classrooms and libraries nationwide.
Through this program, students and citizens can gain a deeper appreciation of our country’s history and character through the study and understanding of its art.
Believing that our students and citizens deserve to see American art that reveals where we have come from, what we have endured and where we are headed, the National Endowment for the Humanities has provided educators with an engaging way to teach American history, culture, art and other subjects through the use of these artistic images, according to the site.
Frances Alexander, the library media specialist at the school, applied for the grant earlier this year.
