The City of Foley Public Facilities Cooperative District met Monday to discuss the status of the Wolf Bay Lodge project underway at the city’s Wilson Pecan property.
According to Jeff Rouzie, the restaurant is less than two weeks away from its grand opening. The new Wolf Bay Lodge location is slated to open Dec. 1 at 20801 Miflin Road in Foley.
“We are on time and ready to open in two weeks. We are within budget,” Rouzie said.
Rouzie also said the restaurant is more impressive on the inside than it is on the outside.
The public facilities cooperative district still has a few loose ends to tie up with the property, but everything is expected to be completed before the first drink is served in December.
The bond, which allows the property to be leased to Wolf Bay Lodge through the city, was completed last week.
Wolf Bay Lodge has already moved into their gift shop adjoining the restaurant.
Insurance policies for the property and the business owners were still in progress at Monday’s meeting. The public facilities cooperative district opted to not require the business owners to purchase flood insurance because the property is not in a flood zone. There are also talks to include a $1 million life insurance policy for one of the co-owners of the business in the monthly rental agreements.
According to Rouzie, the new Wolf Bay Lodge is already booked for more than 40 Christmas parties before the first diner ever crosses the threshold.
Rouzie also expressed hope that some day the surrounding property that is also owned by the city will be developed. He mentioned a “hospitality hotel” which would work well with the nearby Gulf Bowland allow bowling tournaments to be hosted locally and a water park. Rouzie also hopes to someday connect the Gulf Bowl to the nearby Tanger Outlets.
