DAPHNE, Ala. — The Daphne Women’s Study Club unanimously voted to increase annual dues in order to more fully support Daphne High School’s International Baccalaureate Program and other recent initiatives.
The vote occurred after hearing presentations by Tonja Young, library director; Anne Morris, reference librarian; and Louise Youngblood, young adult librarian.
The club was established in 1924 to improve social conditions, and to foster an interest in civic improvement, education, and better citizenship.
There are 35 members who actively pursue the attainment of these goals. Throughout the years, the club’s primary focus has been in support of the Daphne Public Library as it continues to expand, both in size and scope.
Each year, the club has donated funds to the library for the purchase of books in honor of its guest speakers, as well as in memory of deceased club members, working closely with the reference librarian in the selection of meaningful books.
