BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Dyas community residents will soon have a new water source as North Baldwin Utilities’ water-expansion project for the area is anticipated to begin before the year is out.
During last week’s regular meeting of the NBU Board, NBU General Manager Jason Padgett announced that R&B Contractors is set to begin construction on a project that will add public water in the Dyas community.
“There’s 70 to 80 customers on water wells,” he said in a post-meeting interview.
As previously reported, the $600,000 project is funded through a community-development-block grant, in which NBU is to pay $100,000 and the rest is provided by ADECA.
According to Padgett, the project will join pipes to existing pipes nearby, creating a loop of connectivity so that water can be rerouted if the need arises.
“We’re tying the (water) system together in three locations,” Padgett told board members during the meeting. “This really strengthens our system to be able to move water from one place to another.
Now that the bidding process for the project is out of the way, Padgett anticipates work to begin in December.
Also at last week’s meeting, the NBU Board approved the purchase and easement of a lot in the Canturbury subdivision for $35,000. According to Padgett, the easement will enable NBU to connect water and gas lines to the subdivision.
“Once we’re done, we can put the property back up for sale,” he said during the meeting.
The board also moved its next meeting to Monday, Nov. 28, at 8:30 a.m.
