BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Local wounded veterans in Chapter 2206 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart presented a $3,000 check Wednesday to William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette.
The funds were provided by the National Purple Heart foundation, according to Joe Birindelli, commander of the local chapter.
“We are very pleased with this donation from our national headquarters and we are honored to present it to the residents of this veterans’ home,” Birindelli said.
“I would like to see an outpouring of support to honor these heroic residents who have so valiantly served our country when called.
“All veterans are encouraged to join with us. We would gladly accept any new members to our organization if they have been awarded a Purple Heart. Our membership includes a cross section of wounded veterans from World War II to the current Global War on Terrorism.”
The Military Order of the Purple Heart is the only Congressionally chartered veterans organization exclusively for combat-wounded veterans.
