ELBERTA, Ala. — A Robertsdale woman and her 5-year-old son were killed in a single vehicle crash Thursday Sept. 4, on U.S. Highway 98 just outside of Elberta.

Acording to Alabama State Trooper Cpl. Joe Piggott, who is the Troopers’ spokesperson in this matter, Amy Renee Hogue, 26, said to be from Bird Hog Road in Robertsdale, was driving east in a 1986 Ford F-150 pickup truck when she failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a billboard sign post near the intersection of Old Foley Road. State troopers investigated the crash, and are awaiting reslts of an autopsy.

Hogue, who authorities say was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:40 p.m. crash. Christopher Dylan Hogue, who was in a child’s booster seat, was transported to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Christopher David Hogue, husband to the driver, 28, was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported by air ambulance to the University of South Alabama Medical Center with what was described as “non-life threatening” injuries.

Police say that while neither alcohol nor speed is believed to have been a factor, the cause of the fatal crash remains under investigation.

Both mother and child will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at Swift Presbyterian Church with Pastor Keith Caldwell and Brother Mark Kendrick officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.
