FAIRHOPE—Three girls teams and three boys teams advanced to the state 6A cross-country championships Thursday after placing in the 6A Section 1, Site B meet at Volanta Park in Fairhope. A number of individual runners also advanced to the state meet.

McGill-Toolen Catholic swept the titles in both the girls (19 points) and boys (24 points) divisions with Daphne and Fairhope second and third in the girls and Fairhope second, Daphne third in the boys. The top three teams advance while high-finishing unattached runners from Baldwin County High, Foley, Robertsdale and Satsuma qualified as individual runners. The team battle for second and third was tight in the girls with DHS 74 and Fairhope 77. Foley was fourth at 89. The Pirates took second in the boys with a 46 ahead of DHS at 65 and Robertsdale at 131.

Fairhope coach and meet director Tim Yahr was happy with the weather and smoothness of the meet. "A successful meet comes from helpful coaches and their assistants. Especially, this year, Donna Barcliff, one of the assistants from McGill-Toolen, helped bring us into the 21st Century getting everything in the computer. The weather was great and everything went as well as can be, I think."

Yahr was also happy with the hosting teams' results as well.

Nic (Fasanello) and Shawn (Hinton) and Richard (Zimmerman) committed themselves this summer to extra miles and focus. I'm pleased to see that we were ready to make it this far from all that hard work. I'm really proud of our younger runners, our first-year bunch. I told them today, OK, we really need you to step up today and they did. Our girls have been injured. We didn't have our first or fourth runners, Ramayee Nadarajan and Amanda Pierce. Ramayee started and tried but was hurting and had to drop out. But our girls just showed why we're a team. They really stepped up. They saw that she was down, they pushed harder, pushed forward and we made it. Foley was right on us. They have come far this year. We knew we had to work hard to stay in front of them. But we're excited to be going to the state meet."

Yellow Jacket runners swept first place individually with Carmen Carlos winning the girls in 18:34.01 and Phillip Dempsey the boys in 17:08.38 to lead the All-Section top-10.

The other top-10 girls included Sage Blackwell, a Fairhope native attending McGill-Toolen second, and Amber Powell of Daphne third. 4. Emily Dolan, Mc-T; 5. Caroline Manas, Mc-T; 6. Heather Powell, DHS; 7. Arianna Guardalabene, Mc-T; 8. Megan Thompson, Foley; 9. Ariel Hudson, Fairhope; 10. Allison Bourdon, Mc-T.

Hinton took second for Fairhope in the boys top-10 with Alex Nichols of McGill-Toolen third. 4. Fasanello, Fairhope; 5. Garrison Carlos, Mc-T; 6. Miles Bowman, Daphne; 7. Zimmerman, Fairhope; 8. Cameron Ellis, Mc-T; 9. Jordan Poche, Mc-T; 10. Tim Aguirre, Mc-T.

Individual state qualifiers from the Baldwin area include: Girls—Thompson, Rachel Pigott and Chelsea Ferguson all of Foley; Amber Williams of Baldwin County. Boys—Chason Roley and Michael Stanley of BCHS; Tyler Phelps and Zach Kimmer of Robertsdale.

The state meet is set for Nov. 14 at Moulton in Jesse Owens State Park.
