MOBILE, Ala. – McGill Toolen defense owned the night 38-0 at the Lipscomb Complex Friday as the Robertsdale Golden Bears fell to 3-5 overall, 1-5 in 6A Region 2.
Turnovers set the tone for the night, as the Golden Bears lost five of six fumbles and had two interceptions, one being a tipped pass that resulted in a McGill touchdown.
With only four first downs in four quarters of play, the Robertsdale offense struggled under an oppressive McGill defense, managing only 155 yards of total offense for the night. Quarterback Justin Vaughn was five of 19 for passing, and carried for 73 yards.
Two well placed punts by the Yellow Jacket’s Alexander Crow put the Bears inside their own 10 yard line, resulting in a McGill TD from a recovered end-zone fumble.
Sophomore QB Jason Smith scored on a 35-yard pass to Justin Valee, and carried the ball himself on a scoring 10-yard rush. Smith would be seven of 14 for the night, totaling 114 yards, rushing 15 times for 42 yards on the ground.
D.J. Barcy would later score on a 10-yard reverse putting up the last points of the night.
Robertsdale will host Baldwin County next Friday. McGill (6-2, 4-2) travels to Daphne.
