BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Wow! What a great time for the young people last weekend as the youth of Union Baptist held their Youth Rally.

Things got kicked off Saturday afternoon at 6 p.m. The Youth in Christ and the youth directors had worked real hard and was ready for the fun to begin.

Several area church groups were there to take part on the program. Some of the groups in attendance were Mt. Aid of Daphne, Trinity Chapel of Bay Minette, McGhee Temple of Bay Minette, Morning Dove Baptist Church of Perdido, along with a group of young ladies, the workshop voices, plus Rock Solid Faith Church. Also on the program was Latrenna Montgomery who is Miss AWAG 2007. She sang “This Battle is Not Yours, It’s the Lord’s.” Cicily Moorer did a praise dance to “I Love the Lord.” The speaker was introduced by Sabra Simmons who is a very good friend and classmate of his.

The speaker was Minister Chris Cox who now resides in Atlanta, Ga. Chris is a 2005 graduate of Baldwin County High School and the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cox III. He did an outstanding job with the message and even got some of them involved.

The YIC had invited former members to return who have grown up, to be a part of that special evening. They closed the program out by singing “He Still Loves Me.”

Barbara Brown is the youth director; assisting her was Joyce Mims, Rosetta Cannon, Mildred Winston, Tammy Thornton, Annette Johnson, Pat Tate, Deacon Sylvester Thompson, the Revs. Donald Taylor, William Fountaine and Dwight Boykin the pastor.

The program ended Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. with everyone getting involved with a panel and art work. Refreshments were served afterward and yes, it was good. The meal consisted of: collard greens, Mac and Cheese, green salad, ham, fried chicken, bean casserole, peach cobbler, banana pudding, strawberry cake, corn bread, rolls, tea lemonade and punch.

This Friday, Oct. 12, St. Mary Baptist Church No. 2, will end a week of youth activities with the Rev. William Fountain delivering the message at 7 p.m. The program will end on Sunday with Minister Sam White delivering the message.

This Sunday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. the ushers of Mt. Olive Baptist Church will observe their anniversary.

I don’t know how many of you watched the Daphne/Foley game but it was a fantastic game. It was great to see these two teams from Baldwin County showcased on National Television ESPN. Foley won the game 16-14 but it was just good exposure for those young people. Congratulations to both schools.

A special birthday wish goes out to my son Queint Higgins whose birthday was Oct. 9. May you have many more. I love you son. May God bless you today and always is my prayer.

Sympathy goes out to the family of Elkenny Robbins in his passing. May you look to the Lord for strength in this hour of sorrow and know that this too will pass.

Until next week may we all use our tongue to speak those things that are acceptable to God.

May we be vessels that God can use.
