Elijah “Wienie” Young Jr., a native of Bay Minette, born Nov. 19, 1934 to Elijah Young Sr. and Daisy Young, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church and he retired from Quincey Compressor Company of Bay Minette, where he received a 15 years of accident free certificate of award and perfect attendance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Wanda Young Walker; grandson, William Oneal Walker Jr.; two brothers, Rupert Young and Furnet Young; and three sisters, Nina Bell Young Thomas, Hazel V. Young Brown and Ruby M. Young.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Lelia Wallace Young; four children, Vernice Young of Brandon, Miss., Clayton (Joyce) Young of Prichard, Fredrick (SyKenia) Young and Darlene Young of Bay Minette; eight grandchildren, Clayton (Niquel) Young Jr., Tyeisha Young, Christopher J. Young, Termetrius (Lewis) Hollins, Frerica Young, Zachary Young, Johnathan Moore and Ashley Seals; seven great-grandchildren, Kymari Young, Kadon Hollins, Kambri Hollins, Glavonte Young, Christian Young, Natalie Young and Dontavis Young; three brothers, Marion Young of Bay Minette; Theodore (Barbara) Young of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Thermon Young of Syracus, N.Y.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at Union Baptist Church with Pastor Robert McWilliams officiating. Burial will follow at Mutual Aid Cemetery in Bay Minette.
