MARLOW, Ala. —There will be a community meeting on the proposed Planning District 14 zoning plan at Marlow United Methodist Church Thursday April 8 at 6 p.m. A referendum on the matter will be held April 13.
Residents of District 14, roughly bounded by an area just to the south of U.S. Highway 98, Kellher Road, County Road 27, Highway 104, and Vic Mikkelsen Lane/County Road 55 will vote in a referendum April 13 to see if a county zoning plan will be implemented in the area. The exact map can be seen on-line at the Baldwin County Web site/ The area currently has no land-use regulations. Cities and towns in or bordering the area have their own zoning regulations.
The poll will open at 7 a.m. April 13 at the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department and will be open to 7 p.m. The Marlow VFD is at 13355 County Road 32.
According to county regulations, a zoned district must have a committee of residents to decide how land will be used.
Proponents of the vote say that zoning will bring more order to the area, and prevent unrestricted growth.
Opponents are deeply suspicious of the measure, and worry that their rights to do things with their property will be restricted.
